30' X 40' Timber Frame Barn W/ 6' X 12' Clerestory
A fabulous project for a spectacular coastal Maine site, this custom designed 30′x40′ fully timber framed barn will serve many capacities through its years. Designed especially tall to accomodate storage of an excavator, the lines of this barn remain clean and strong. A full upstairs with a 4′ knee wall will serve as a two bedroom guest apartment for this island retreat. A 6′x12′ clerestory style cupola for light and ventilation provides a break in the top of the 12 in 12 roof pitch, topping out at over 34′ tall! Locally sourced Eastern Hemlock timbers and signature Red Oak braces as well as fully mortised and tenoned window and sheathing nailers provide an exceptionally stout and rigid frame. Creative site conditions and tidal impacts all added to the challenge of raising this frame, but an exceptional crew stayed safe and happy through the entire project.
