Arched Top Hope Chest
CustomMade by Kevin Mack
This design was inspired by a hope chest passed down to my mother. It was built in Norway and painted with a traditional floral pattern called "rosemailing".and dated 1867.
Knowing that I would not be the "next" to inherit this chest ( 2 sisters...) I decided to design and build my own
… version.
I have always admired Asian design and wanted to incorporate this idea into my own version.
Built of quartersawn Cherry, Quilted Maple, and aromatic Cedar. It has a sliding "till" for smaller items and Arts and crafts style brass hardware to carry it.
Both the chest and the till have solid cedar bottoms and is finished in a french polish shellac.
This piece would be an excellent choice for a new bride, or someone looking to begin the story of their own "family heirloom".
