Balance of wood and clay elements create this special accent piece. The sculpted wood is tiger maple. It is permanently attached, although it has the appearance of being precariously perched atop the ceramic vessel. The clay form is hand built construction with an incised texture on inset. Layered glazes enhance the inset with beautiful intense color. The piece is fired a third time in a kiln fueled by sawdust (Pit Firing) to add the smoked surfaces surrounding the inset. This is a decorative ,sculptural vessel and does not hold water.
