Canale Series
Studio Zayante Canale art glass developed from Christopher Johnson's exploration of the interactive qualities of special types of glass and the layering of bands of intense color. Canale is the Italian word for "canals," referring to the intricate patterns that characterize this style. In the creation of Canale vessels, multiple layers of color are individually applied to the blown glass; following each application, the piece must be reheated in the furnace at temperatures in excess of 2000 Fahrenheit before the next layer can be added to the piece. The Italian city of Venice, known for its canals, is also world-renowned for its colorful, elaborate, and skillfully made glass.
