When we lived in Brookline, my walk home from the subway went by several antique stores. Occasionally I would stop in and look. A candle box I spotted on one of these visits, served as the seed for this box.

The top and bottom are one piece. The Brusso hinges stop the lid at 100 degrees, so it … stays open. The 2 sliding trays lift out to offer larger storage below. The bottoms of both the trays and the box are cloth lined.

The hollowed shape of the top and bottom edges and the ends of the cleats are called coves.
