This piece is part of a series that I created for Fall 2011. The sizes are larger, the pieces are a bit more colorful and most importantly, where appropriate, I am including inspirational phrases and quotations. This helps the pieces to have more of a presence and be a more inspirational part of
… your life. We all need constant reminders!
When I purchased the maple for this piece I scrounged all the bins in hope of finding it's siblings. Alas, this was the only piece of the original log that I could find, so when this is gone, it is truly gone. The shape and grain pattern lent itself to a vertical design, and the Buddha/Bodhi Tree motif seemed to fit it exactly. I love the combination of the moon, clouds and tree that frame the sitting Buddha. The design was cut with a CNC router and then hand painted with colors that suggest the colors of nature.
The piece is mounted on a slab of white honeycombed marble. It is a good complement to the natural tones of the maple, and serve to highlight and contrast the colors of the tree and moon.
