This handmade, burnished platter was finished in a modified pit firing to retain the lovely terracotta color of the "bowl". It has a hairline crack in the rim, which, sadly, is not unusual when pit-firing such pieces. The crack has been sealed so it will neither expand nor worsen. This piece, as … with most pit-fired items, is strictly decorative or limited to dry items.
The base of the piece, not pictured here but shown in my studio video, has a lovely swirl pattern made with my burnishing stone. It is a truly stunningly beautiful piece. The price would be much higher if not for the hairline fracture. Please email me for more photos.
