Hi Joe,

I completed a sketch of your cutting board design illustrating the inlay and engraving. Please take a look and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I'm planning to pick up the material this weekend and will keep you updated with the progress.

Thanks,

Picked up some maple for your cutting board to go with the walnut I already had in stock. I'll start working on the cutting board this week.

Material Milled and Glued

update posted on Feb 11th 2012 by Clark Wood Creations

The first step was to mill the maple and walnut to a consistent thickness and then rip many strips to create the edge grain board. In addition to the maple, a couple narrow strips were cut for the accent pieces.

Lots of glue and many clamps are used to glue up the board. It always looks messy at this stage!!

A couple trips through the drum sander to clean up the extra glue and burn marks and then trimmed to length at the table saw.

The maple inlay was glued into the board and then the name burned through the veneer to reveal the walnut below.

Just some detailed sanding left before the oil and wax.
