A little about myself
I'm a voting member of the Canadian Knifemakers Guild,
I currently reside in Elliot Lake and knife making has been my passion for many years. The knives are made for hunting, fishing or for a collec…tor's personal enjoyment. Elliot Lake is a small town in Northern Ontario, Canada, where hunting, fishing and trapping are a part of the local way of life.
In 1981, while working on the Distant Early Warning line in the Canadian Arctic a co-worker showed me a knife he had crafted from a discarded saw blade. He had used Plexiglas washers to make the handle. Seeing this hand crafted knife is what peaked my interest, and got me hooked on creating my own knives.
The first knife I made was fashioned with old truck springs, heated with a torch and hammered out until it took on the shape of a knife. While the camp cook was off duty I would use his ovens to temper my blades.
I'm a full-time knifemaker and welcome the opportunity to create new knives based on the wants and needs of my customers.
Material
I spare no expense when selecting the materials to make my knives. I strive to provide all of my customers with a superior quality item, which can be enjoyed for years.
Steel:
My primary steels are CPM series of stainless steel but not limited to, I also use D2 and a variety of Damascus and Stainless Damascus. Will use others at customers request.
My blades are heat treated to give optimum performance.
Handles:
I use a wide variety of handle material, my preference being Stabilized Burls, Stag, Sheep Horn, Mammoth Ivory. Handles are custom designed to fit the style and purpose of each knife.
Knives
When you purchase one of my knives, you will know that you own a knife which was made by someone who takes great pride in his work, creating the knife out of raw materials. Each knife is individually handcrafted and I strive for superior quality in each knife I make.
If you don't see exactly what you had in mind, let's talk, chances are I can make it for you.
Most days I'm in my work shop so give us a call at the phone number I provided for you
Questions and comments welcome.

Wow! Really is there more to say? Great artistry! I purchased a Stabilized & Dyed Birch Burl Bullnose Skinner with Inlayed Buffalo Horn spacers, with a purple hue, and the Knife is wonderful. This knife inspired me to start collecting skinners. And G...ill was very helpful and quick to respond to all my emails and requests. Thanks, Josh

By far Gil's knives have set a standard of excellence which I have not yet seen met. His attention to detail and excellence in cr...aftmanship is second to none. I own over a dozen of Gil's knives and am constantly surprised by his new products or a different take on a knife already produced. I have purchased from his existing stock as well as commissioned specific pieces, and I have never been disappointed.
show more ↓ show less ↑As to Guillaume Cote, well nothing but good things can be said about the man and his knives. I have had the privilege to become a good friend of he and his wife. My being a person who is just starting to make knives Guillaume has become a mentor to m...e. He has taken time from working on his own knives to invite me to his shop and teach me many phases of knife making. He is just a phone call away and always willing to take the time to answer any question about a procedure or problem I might be encountering. As to his knives, I would say they are right up there with the other top custom made knives in Canada. But you have to understand that Guillaume is a very modest man and will not boast about his knives. On the other hand when he shows you his most recent custom knife you can not help but notice the pride in his voice and mannerisms that he exudes upon completing a unique knife. His latest knife, a Bowie is just out of this world. He made a hunting knife utilizing ball bearings as spacers along the length of the handle. The engineering that went into that design was so very eloborate. Then he makes his Sharkie filleting knives that are in a class of their own. These are just a few examples of his creativity. As you have likely gathered from what I have been saying that I am one of many fans of Guillaume and his knives. I am blessed to have Guillaume Cote as a friend and mentor. - David Healey

The quality and craftmanship are the best and Mr. Cote himself was always available to answer questions and give me answers about his fine line of custom, handmade knives. The ...experiance was pleasurable and the knife fulfilled a wish of mine that I had carried for twenty years. I would recommend Guillaume to anyone, sincerely, Tim Hunter
show more ↓ show less ↑It was a couple of years ago that I discovered Cote knives while searching online, and I have purchased five knives since then. Guillaume Cote is an artisan when it comes to custom knives, they are truly works of art. In fact, my deer hunting buddi...es wonder why I use such beautiful knives for field dressing and butchering. The answer is simple; these knives are not just pretty, they are a great tool to get the job done. Each knife whether it is a fillet, hunter or camp is strong, flexible if need be (fillet), well balanced, and wonderfully sharp. I am extremely happy with each knife. Ordering and payment is very simple. You can do it online or call Guillaume at home. He and his wife, Carol, are very friendly and accomodating with answers to your questions. Knives that are finished and ready for sale can be in your hands in just a few days. Guillaume uses a variety of materials for his handles, and several different types of steel. Quality in materials and workmanship are self evident. Someday my grandchildren will be using these knives long after I'm gone.

show more ↓ show less ↑My husband makes the sheaths for Cote's knives. Each size and shape of the knives Guillaume makes is a new challenge to my husband in making just the right sheath. Their work compliments each other very well. His knives are beautiful and he tries... hard to give all buyers what they ask for. If for some reason he gets it wrong . . . Guillaume is quick to correct and make things right for the customer. His work is not only known world wide, but are also appreciated by those who purchase knives from him. Guillaume is a fair-minded man who does good work, and you will have a product you'll be pleased and honoured to display and use.

The whole process starting to decide design and materials etc in detail with Guillaume, was meticulous and excellent. I wanted a special Monmouth Ivory ha...ndle and he helped me a lot to choose one of the best... Because he does do everything by himself, I needed bit of patience to wait to receive. His communication is very accurate and prompt which eased me a lot. When I received them, I was absolutely blown away! It is art rather than knife totally exceeded my expectation. I would definitely recommend Gillaume without any hesitation. He has not only excellent skill to make knives but also superb sense of art in making knives as well. I went out to use those knives. It is practically perfect as well. I do wish him making further success in his business. He is a true artisan.

The last one is a Chef's knife which my wife requested from Guillaume as a present to me and, although I believe that they are not in his usual line of work he agre...ed to do it. That is the kind of person Guillaume is, always willing to do what he can to satisfy anyone. I treasure this real work of art, not only because of it's appearance, wow! but of the sheer quality. It looks good and feels good. Thank you Guillaume.
