We like carving in cherry and maple, but if you have a preference we’ll carve in that too if its possible.
We also carve Lithophanes. This art-form was popular in the 19th century when artisans would make a mold d of a complex scene in bees was then pour porcelain into it and fire it. The result produced a stunningly detailed 3D image that only becomes apparent when backlit. The word Lithophane comes from the Greek “lithos “meaning rock and “phanein”, meaning “to suddenly appear”. So when backlit the 3D image suddenly appears in the porcelain. Custom work in this special art was only available to the wealthy. But now thanks to modern technology and the translucent properties of Corian® we can reproduce the Lithophane effect at an affordable price. Any photo can become a Lithophane night-light or a portrait sized image mounted in a light box. Make your special photos last a lifetime.
