I value the design and planning phase for this reason, so much so that I provide my clients with full, 3D computer renderings of a design before lumber is ever even selected. This gives my clients a unique ability to view their project from literally any perspective. Proportion and scale can be aesthetically assessed, and the piece can be virtually seen in the critical context of where it will eventually live - be it a kitchen, living room, or office.

More intimately, I find a tree to be a beautiful, potent being. We climb them as kids, plant them as adults, and enjoy the changing colors throughout the seasons. Each is a well-documented record of history, with its own unique story to tell. I take great care in planning each project, to ensure each board is carefully selected for its intended purpose. How a board is cut from a log, moisture content, figure, and internal stresses are just some of the things I consider when planning a new project. With careful attention to details like this, the design stage is a wonderful journey in and of itself, and the life of the tree is sure to be honored.
