Stephenson is a fifth generation artist who received his BFA from the Pennsylvania State University in 1990 and his MFA from the University of Houston in 1996. He honed his craft by working as a studio assistant for Robert Fisher and James T. Martin, and currently works with Richard Hunt in Chicago. Over the past 20 years, Stephenson has worked in art foundries in Montana, Texas, and Massachusetts, and has taught at the Glassell School of Art in Houston, the University of Houston, and the Art Institute of Chicago. He has also taught workshops and lectured for the International Sculpture Conference and the International Iron Conference. Since his arrival in Chicago in 2001, Stephenson’s work has been in the Lakefront Sculpture Exhibition the last four years, the PNC 11th Anniversary Odyssey Sculpture, and the Krasl Biennial Sculpture Invitational. He has also had a solo show at University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a two person show at the Union League Club of Chicago. His sculpture “Traveler” has been leased by the Village of Oak Park and his work is a part of number of private collections.
