An American Master
Glassblower, Ed Schmid has been living the dream and working with molten glass since 1984. He is also the guy that literally wrote the book on glassblowing; namely the world's best-selling texts on how-to do it: "Beginning Glassblowing" and "Advanced Glassworking Techniques".
Ed also teaches at his studio in Pacific Northwest as well as giving classes and workshops in glassblowing worldwide. His work may be found in several museums and major collections around the globe.
Ed believes that "Variety is the Spice of Life" and he enjoys and employs a variety of glassmaking techniques to create a wide body of work. From full blown installations to beads, baubles and bubbles, there is hardly a style or technique in glass he hasn't tried.
His specialties include sculpture, drinking vessels and decorative art, whimsical and humorous works as well.
Bring me your ideas (or better yet, your drawings or images!) of what you would like made because I would love the opportunity to help you realize them in glass. I work in many different facets of glassmaking, from cutting and polishing to blowing and sculpting functional and conceptual art. If I can't make it, I could probably direct you to someone that could, I know a good deal of the artists working in glass today.
Born in Chicago in 1964, Ed now resides in Bellingham, Washington with his wife Elena and their two young children. When he's not busy working in the studio, he enjoys the great outdoors: fishing, crabbing, hiking, and mtn. biking, in addition to brewing his own beer and mead (and naturally the glassware to store and serve them in.).
Drop me a line and maybe we can work together to create something unique, beautiful and all of your own.
