Service areaWe are located in Cambridge Massachusetts with a shop in Medford Massachusetts. We directly serve this area and approximately a 50 mile radius. Of course, orders can emanate from anywhere in the world, but you will have a hard time appreciating Paul Norman's work from pictures. We create objects and it is best if our work can be viewed in 3D (minus the silly glasses).
-
ShippingWe will ship worldwide, but of course, vast differences in price relate to the size of the object and the proximity to its source. While some small objects (e.g., gargoyle carvings) have shipping cost that can be calculated in PayPal, larger objects (e.g., guitars, tables, etc.) vary widely in shipping cost due to size, carrier and geographic location. It is best to contact Paul directly when figuring out shipping costs for these items. Our preferred carriers are USPS and FedEx. UPS has proven to be unreliable in delivering goods in the condition in which they began.
-
InstallationWe do make built-ins (everything from moldings to entertainment centers to full finish woodwork for a residential remodeling job.) Some items can be pre-fabricated and installed. Other items must be built in place. We will gladly work with architects or a home owner with a complete vision of the project. Paul Norman has a Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor's License (#168875). Where building permits are required, the home owner is responsible for obtaining them. Paul's remodeling business goes under the name SherpaDog Renovations - in honor of his favorite dog breed (Tibetan Terriers). We will either work time-and-materal or provide a quote. Generally, the home owner receives a better deal under the time-and-material model. Paul will work on remodeling projects within a 25 mile radius of his shop or home (they are about 1 mile from each other).

Recommendations for this maker

I highly recommend Paul, based on my experience a few years ago, when he remodeled my kitchen from the studs out. It is a small kitchen that presented several challenges. Only a meticulous, resourceful and conscientious craftsman like Paul could pu...ll it off. Years later, I continue to be aware of the quality of his work. Everything has held up beautifully, from the cabinetry, to the woodworking, to the maple floor he installed and finished perfectly and several small innovations that have made the space more functional. Obviously, I have great respect for Paul's talents and his approach to his work.

Paul's sense of design, craftsmanship, and commitment to quality yielded outstanding resutls for cabinet repair and refinishing he performed at our house. The work was begun and completed when promised which made working with him a pleasure.

I hired Paul Norman of SherpaDog Renovations to rebuild a large enclosed front porch which had been destroyed by carpenter ants! I was pleased by the variety of cost effective redesign options Paul offered. In the end I chose to add some ornament t...o my Victorian home. He replaced the exterior plain shingles with scalloped ones, designed a diamond pattern (instead of the common basket weave) for the exterior skirt of the porch, added wainscoting under the interior windows, built a beautiful wooden ceiling and installed casement windows. I was thrilled with the results. Paul's attention to detail and fine carpentry skills resulted in a porch much admired by my neighbors and friends. I recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable, conscientious and creative carpenter. I would definitely hire him again.
