He has personally produced a wide variety of custom artworks including jewelry, coins, sculpture, architectural iron work, chalices, and even full suits of armor for discerning art lovers. He has developed an extensive knowledge of period and ethnic design styles, and design and production methods enabling him to incorporate them with modern tools and technology to achieve truly unique custom designs in his finished work.

Such techniques would include; smithing techniques for the creation of armour, bladesmithing and Damascus steel; manipulation and pattern development using Mokume-Gane (Japanese style mixed-metal lamination); Niello making and application (black inlay on engraved or etched metals), and Keum-boo (Korean gilding technique), just to name a few.

What this means for you is that you can be sure that when the Howard Academy agrees to create a custom piece, you can not only be confident that the final product will be a piece that you will cherish and be proud to own, but also that you will have expert support in the conceptualisation, design and choice of the most appropriate materials to guarantee the longevity and quality of the final piece.

Bill and his team of master metal smiths, who total over 85 years of metal work, gemology and jewelry experience between them, are working constantly with gold, silver, platinum, titanium, niobium, iron and a range of other fine metals, using both traditional and modern metalsmithing techniques to explore new and creative applications for these materials.

As Headmaster of the Howard Academy, Bill also seeks to impart his bench expertise to those who wish to succeed in the metal arts field. Custom jewelry, repair and restoration work is done for the public and for the trade through the auspices of the academy.
