One might say
that I'm from a long line of makers. My great grandfather operated a "pressing shop" in Vidalia, Louisiana as early as the 1940s, and well into the 60s. Along with that territory of course there was plenty of mending and alterations. His own daughter, my paternal grandmother (still living), used to create her own formal gowns of fancy brocade fabrics and would cover her shoes in the same cloth! In addition to those things, she made her own hats, jewelry, plus she created flowers from ribbon. Her son, my dad, tried his hand at many art forms. His artwork of drawings, paintings, sculptures, and pottery pieces grace our homes until this day.
I'm so glad the artistic trait did not stop there. I grew up sewing and by the time I graduated from high school, it was apparent that I would go into some art related field.
I graduated from Otis College of Art & Design in Fashion Design and since have gone on to millinery and jewelry design. My business KARTISIM Design offers women's vintage inspired, hand blocked and sewn hats in wool, decorator cloth and also straw. Many of the hats are OOAK (one of a kind) as they are very difficult to replicate.
Please feel free to contact me with your questions. I look forward to working with you!
Warmly,
Kim
