About John Kizer's Fine Custom Woodworking
I specialize in one of kind, custom furniture pieces. Currently I am the owner and operator of a one man enterprise, John Kizer's Fine Custom Woodworking, LLC.
Since childhood I have been fascinated with nature's innate beauty. Furniture, when… designed and constructed to maximize grain direction, color, and figure, offers an ideal situation to allow the intrinsic character of a tree to be preserved and enhanced forever. I like to refer to such thoughtful, meticulous woodworking as heirloom quality furniture. When properly maintained, the pieces I construct for you will be a source of family pride handed down to posterity for ages.
I derive a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction from both designing and constructing fine furniture. Designing original pieces that must match specific criteria, such as themes, colors, architectural elements, and dimensions present within the environment where the piece will reside is equally within my repertoire as accurately reproducing classic forms while maintaining historical consistency.
I studied furniture and cabinet making for 4 years as a high school elective in Hillsborough, NC under the tutelage of Kieth Yow. After being awarded a BA in psychology from Rhodes College, I furthered my woodworking education at Rockingham Community College, Wentworth, NC, receiving an Associates in Applied Science in Fine and Creative woodworking. I often read that many retirees delve into woodworking after their careers culminate which lead me to ask, why do I have to wait for retirement to do what I am passionate about? Thus, while I still work diligently, I believe I retired immediately after I graduated from college.

ShippingI will personally deliver within a 250 mile radius. On a contractual, as needed, basis, specific and/or complex deliveries outside that radius may be accommodated. Otherwise, I will carefully package pieces in padded, wooden crates and use insured and confirmed delivery through trusted shipping entities, most likely being UPS.

InstallationMost pieces being furniture items, installation should not be necessary. Within the 250 mile radius, any piece I deliver will be placed in the appropriate area of your home, office, or business by my hands. I will see to it that everything in is in pristine working condition before I leave. Outside of the 250 mile radius, the installation will be discussed and agreed upon before construction begins. Complex pieces that need expertise installation will be arranged for.
