I have been
designing and creating figurative 'wearable sculpture' jewelry for over 20 years, I have recently added a line of rings crafted from precious metals, gem stones and resin. These pieces are made with the urban goddess in mind. Most of the pieces are one of a kind, some can be sized. I tell my collectors that I have 3 questions they should ask themselves before buying.
1. Do I love it?
2. Would I wear it?
3. If I come back to Laura's shop and it's gone, will I regret that it isn't mine?
If you answer "yes" to all 3 questions, you have found your reflection.
I have studied as a portrait painter and that is clearly reflected in the sculptural aspect of my jewelry.
The entire process for each piece consists of multiple steps. I sculpt the miniatures in fine porcelain. They are then fired several times in small kilns layering the glazes. When they are finished, I marry them with gemstones and other natural materials using fabrication techniques. The metals that I use in this process are fine and sterling silver, 18k and 22k gold and 24k gold leaf.
I also have a line of mixed metal and stone jewelry that is urban and edgy. Much if this work is crafted by recycling precious metals with gem stones (rough and finished) to produce very detailed contemporary wearable works of art.

I am drawn to unusual materials, inclusive of minerals and rough cut stones. I believe that the beauty nature provides is far more intriguing than what man alters. My jewelry is truly three dimensional. Some of the pieces are designed to stand as sculpture when not being worn.
Laura Stamper Designs is sold at juried art shows across the nation, through select galleries and through the fine crafts catalog, Uno Alla Volta. I love the response when people see my work for the 1st time. They often say, “Oh my!” or “Wow!” Sometimes they just laugh at the whimsy - that is the response I like the best. Because of the varied techniques I use, they often guess what media it is.
