I work in
a small studio in Maine, about half an hour from Portland. My designs are generally minimalistic, rustic, and hand hewn--at times, intentionally raw. I use hand tools for cutting, refining and most finishing. I do not have equipment that allows for casting or engraving.
I am drawn to the organic nature of metal. I love to hammer and create texture, and think in terms of miniature works and sculptures that might be created by farriers and blacksmiths.
I am also drawn to the graceful moving mobiles created by Alexander Calder and to the pristine simplicity of the Shakers; and so I consider movement, line and balance when thinking about design. I have worked with many media over time, but I'm finding that the shapes, designs, textures and ability to work tiny are all properties that metals afford.
My Ring

A very interesting, informative and exciting experience to be able to see my ring made from bare metal. Definitely adds to the "feel" or sentimental value of the ring.
