I work in a small studio in Maine, about half an hour from Portland. My designs are generally minimalistic, rustic, and hand hewn--at times, intentionally raw. I am drawn to the organic nature … Read more I work in a small studio in Maine, about half an hour from Portland. My designs are generally minimalistic, rustic, and hand hewn--at times, intentionally raw. I use hand tools for cutting, refining and most finishing. I do not have equipment that allows for casting or engraving.

I am drawn to the organic nature of metal. I love to hammer and create texture, and think in terms of miniature works and sculptures that might be created by farriers and blacksmiths.

I am also drawn to the graceful moving mobiles created by Alexander Calder and to the pristine simplicity of the Shakers; and so I consider movement, line and balance when thinking about design. I have worked with many media over time, but I'm finding that the shapes, designs, textures and ability to work tiny are all properties that metals afford.

    Hi Benny,

    Here's the initial rough cut with the template removed. I clean the template debris off next and give the piece a first filing and sanding.

    Hi again...just finished sawing out the second bull...and am removing the template. Next step will be to prefinish and then solder the bulls onto a back plate.

    Laura was phenomenal!! I commissioned her to create a unique piece. I sent her the design and my initial ideas, and she offered thoughtful suggestions with respect to both appearance and pricing. She kept me informed throughout the process, and send pics of the piece-in-work. She was responsive and professional and proved a true artist. The final piece, which arrived timely, surpassed my vision - it was truly gorgeous and will undoubtedly be something I cherish forever.
