I am surrounded by many of the oldest and tallest buildings in the city, most of which were built when details were seen as necessary as opposed to time-consuming and expensive. And in total contrast, the Battery Park woodland area is smack dab in the middle of it all. Making harmony out the incongruous juxtaposition of these elements is what inspires me. I draw on these architectural details and the organic nature of the trees that grace the southern tip of our beautiful island.

  • floating walnut shelf

    Thought you might like to see this floating media shelf which I made for a client. The trick here was coming up with a way to make the shelf appear to float and at the same time hide all the component wires. I used 3/4" gas piping from Home Depot that was welded to some 1/4" steel plate, and then drilled corresponding holes in the back of the shelf so that it would slide over the bracket and render it invisible.   • making a concrete carrot

    Concrete and steel were the idea materials to show strength, glass too, but this project had to appear light in design so for the construction i thought about floating the glass.

    The client is also a computer design firm that uses Apple computers exclusively. Their other requirement was that it spoke to the simple clean lines of the Apple design.

    What i tried to come up with was a Stonehenge that was redesigned by Apple. You be the judge of whether it worked or not.
