The process starts by watering down acrylic and latex paints, colliding colors with steam pressure to create a “northern light” result. The mirror is then designed by either hand cutting it or simply shattering it with a hammer. I am a little superstitious and you know the old wives tale, 7 years bad luck, so far I’m in the clear. To break the minerals I use a self-container that is placed on top of an anvil and use a thick rod to smash the rock to create different grades. There are many specimens of minerals I use from amethyst, coal, turquoise, lava shards, geodes, man-made glass and many more. The design comes down to how the paints collide together, I will sit there for hours on end to figure how the best placement of materials should be place to make one piece to be more unique than the last one. I use a two-step epoxy that has a high gloss finish to seal in all mirror, minerals, and paint to be persevered forever! Last and final step is branding my signature of two skeleton keys that I had altered into the back of my work, my art and my design for authenticity of my pieces.
