Although walnut is my first choice for ca … Read more Nouveau Rustic is a one man shop dedicated to producing high quality, one of a kind furnishings and accessories for the home. All pieces are made of solid hardwood from species native to the central hardwood forests of the US generally, and the SW Michigan area specifically. Although walnut is my first choice for carcass wood, I have also used oak, Birdseye and quilted maple, quartersawn sycamore, ash cherry, sassafrass, mulberry etc.
The natural stick or branch trim is usually stained so that there is a uniform color across the piece. I will also usually incorporate some small amount of birchbark, stone or resin based natural material as another layer of decoration. Raw amber, tumbled carnelian, and various varieties of soapstone and alabaster have all been used over the years.
