Valerie Spellman Batt
was raised in Omaha, NE and loved growing up in the Midwest. She caught the glass bug back in 1993 while she was living in Tucson, AZ, after college. She received her glass training in Tucson, AZ, through glass conferences in Las Vegas, NV and through research.
Valerie says of the Hot Shops Art Center in Omaha where she set up her studio, "The Hot Shops is an incredible and unique creative center that is fast becoming my second home." She can hire a photographer to take pictures of her installations, use the photo lab to print those pictures and have them framed beautifully at the frame shop for display in her studio. The glass blowers will make custom rondels for her to use in her windows and the blacksmith can make custom decorative frames for her work. The collaboration and creative back and forth between artists is something that only adds to her work.
Valerie specializes in custom stained glass windows for the home and business and loves the challenge of coming up with designs that express her client's desire. She designs, fabricates and installs stained glass windows for homes and businesses. After consulting with the client about objectives and either inspecting the space for the installation or looking at pictures through the internet, she creates designs for approval. Designs are from her own sense of art and style, while also taking guidance and direction from the client. Occasionally, a client will have precise requirements, but if not, Valerie can help guide them through finding the perfect design for them. The final design and cost are approved by the client.
Custom windows can be made to fit any window. Windows can be made to hang or installed against an existing window. Mouth blown antique glass or machine made glass is used depending on the client’s and the desired look. Valerie likes to incorporate bevels, jewels, rondels and glass nuggets into her projects. Windows are fabricated using the technique of lead came or soldered copper foil and often times it will be a combination of the two.
In addition to custom stained glass, Valerie offers a wide range of gifts from fused glass millefiori jewelry to beveled boxes and frames. She has many of those for sale through this site or her website at www.paintedlightglass.com.
Please contact Valerie if you want to work with her to create a one-of-a-kind stained glass window for your home or business.
