“He who works
with his hands is a laborer.
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.
He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”
― St. Francis of Assisi
Over the years I have made some hard choices about what exactly it means to be an "Artist" and what was important to me as an "Artist". The choices have not been easy but for ME, I believe it is important for the Artist to stay close to the creation process. There have been many new technical "advances" that remove critical parts of the process away from the Artist's Hands so that it becomes more Machine-made than Hand-Made.
Many jewelers have taken a different path than I, but this is what is true about ME:
Jewelry making is not an exact Science.
In MY World, Time is a Commodity.
My Jewelry is HandMade in my Studio in Texas by Me.
Mine is a Working Studio and I am the Head Jeweler.
I have an Apprentice.
I can get lost in time.
My initial designs are individually created, they are NOT Cad-Created or Machine Made.
Many of my designs are One-Of-A-Kind, some become Limited Edition Series, and Production pieces have a mold made to ensure consistency.
I classify my style of Jewelry as "Artisan", "Organic" or "Sculptural".
I recycle old gold and silver into new pieces.
If you expect Commercial-Manufactured looking jewelry, then you are not looking for me.
I strive to make each piece as beautiful as it can possibly be.
This takes time. Please be patient.
Sometimes it takes a little longer than I anticipate.
Hand stamping with individual metal stamps does NOT look the same as jewelry that has been stamped by a machine or machine engraved.
Just because you can draw it does not mean it can be done.
I will strive to work with each customer to do what is humanly possible to achieve.
Thank you for reading all of this and looking forward to making amazing custom jewelry with you.
silver ring

Patricia is a great metalsmith and a consummate professional. She was able to translate my vague concept into a ring that was exactly what I wanted, a unique piece that will be my talisman. The fine-tuning she did with finishing touches took the piece to a new level. She'll be at the top of my list for my next metalworking project.
