Philip Morse Design/Woodworking in New Hampshire

Philip Morse of Philip Morse Design/Woodworking • Elkins, NH

My approach to design could be summed up by “less is more”. Although I can do the more, I naturally tend towards classical simplicity and stripped down detail. Technical mastery is just as necessary in my process as it is in others but it usually serves to support the final effect rather than overwhelm it. Technical mastery is just as necessary in my process as it is in others but it usually serves to support the final effect rather than overwhelm it.

Since 1975, I have produced everything from architectural millwork (bookcases and built-ins) to one-of-kind pieces of furniture and sculpture for architects, interior designers, and discriminating clients with particular requirements. My goals are quality and lasting results. My design process is flexible, thorough, and adaptable to individual needs, and may include hand drawn sketches, CAD, and 3D images as necessary.

  • Wall clock

by Fran White Apr 10th 2013

Creating this wall clock with Phil was a wonderful experience. He's open to all ideas and truly knows how to collaborate. I would highly recommend you choose Phil for any of your CustomMade projects. We liked the wall clock so much that we decided not to place it on a side wall in the kitchen, where it was originally intended for. It deserved a more prestigious home and now resides over our sideboard in our dining room.

  • cane or walking stick

    by Doug Apr 03rd 2013

Phil cut the wood from a red oak tree on his New Hampshire property using a long ladder and rope saw, a live branch, green wood. He cut it down to 1/4 inch of the final size, soaked it in a custom made polyethylene glycol tank for two weeks, finished the carving, let it dry, coated it with epoxy sealer and then with spar urethane. I like the cane. It is very sturdy, in case I need it to pry something. I'm almost 63 - I don't need a cane yet, but the time will come. Phil sent progress photos as the job progressed, and he delivered it in person. Thank you!

  • Existing door needs to be refinished

by Todd Finard Feb 21st 2013

It was a pleasure working with Philip Morse. His guidance and responsiveness made the stress of the project much easier to handle. Once it was in his hands, his focus on achieving the overall need more than exceeded our expectation. I highly recommend Philip Morse and I look forward to working with him again in the future.

  • a wooden cube about 6" on each side.

    by Fred Nov 22nd 2012

Philip is an extremely talented and accomplished craftsman and artist. He listens well so that his work for me is simply everything I wanted, and I am extremely pleased with the product. On top of this, his suggestions were crucial. His responses to my messages were always prompt. He finished the work before the due date. The price was very reasonable.
