Black & Sons Furniture Makers

Columbus, Wisconsin

Black & Sons was begun in 1968 by my father, Robert B. Black, as a chance to practice his skills in woodworking, and to work for himself. He successfully built custom pieces for many years after, working with clients and designers from all over southern Wisconsin. Since 2000, I have joined with Dad to pass the business into the next generation. That has included producing not only singular custom pieces, but larger installations as well. We currently produce large custom kitchens, media centers, libraries, and bathrooms, as well as built-in and stand-alone furniture for every other room of the home. We've also been contracted to produce large installations for commercial projects.

We are credentialed by the State of Wisconsin as Dwelling Contractors, and we are fully insured. We prefer to manage our remodeling projects, from demolition to the final light fixture, so that every detail is thought out, and will have a truly designed appearance.

We love working with architects, designers, and decorators, so if you work with one, feel free to have them get in touch with us. If you are one, I would welcome the creative dialogue. Several pieces shown on our website are collaborations with Madison, Wisconsin-area designers, and these pieces reside in several notable homes.

We also love to be challenged with new designs, so we can learn new techniques in woodworking and finishing. And, we are open to experimentation with exotic woods, metals, and other media in our pieces. Send us a design, and let us produce the custom piece of your dreams!

Service Area

We are located in northeast Dane County, in South-Central Wisconsin, near the capital city of Madison. In our history, we have served clients from all over southern Wisconsin, including Milwaukee. We are close enough to the major urban centers of the Twin Cities and Chicago, as well as Green Bay and Rockford. Travel to any of these areas would be easy for us!

Shipping & Installation Information

Smaller custom or spec pieces can be crated and safely shipped anywhere. Shipping costs will be figured on a per order basis.

For larger installations, we will travel anywhere for the right project. Locally, we prefer to install our custom built-ins, and provide this service per project.
