Steve Scherer was introduced to glass craft in 1969 by "Cap" Duewer, a scientific glassblower. Cap and his son David taught Steve how to color glass with various chemicals and instilled an ethic for doing quality work. After completing a degree in Microbiology at the University of Illinois, Steve decided to pursue glasswork full time.
"Lampwork" used to be done with an alcohol lamp and a mouth-powered blowpipe to direct the flame. Steve uses an oxygen/propane torch and borosilicate (pyrex) glass to create his amazingly intricate glass artwork. He enjoys traveling, meeting new people and expanding his repertoire.
