Nearly thirty years ago I was accepted as an ap … Read more Hello! My name is Edith Schwirian and I am a Master Goldsmith specializing in one-of-a-kind, custom pieces of all sorts of variety. I was born in Newcastle, England, immigrating to America at an early age, and have called Northern California my home now for over 30 years. Nearly thirty years ago I was accepted as an apprentice to a Master Goldsmith, who taught me the art of forging gold and silver, instilling in me a great love for the amazing process of forging art out of precious metals. Since then, I have made a career doing what I love, creating one-of-a-kind pieces for my customers, and have even taken on my own apprentices. The shapes and textures that I create on gold and silver mimic water, with the light traveling across the metal and around the curve, creating a unique quality to every piece. I love the challenge of a new design and the satisfaction I feel when I finish a piece. For me, metal is the perfect medium within which to work. Metal can take on any shape, color, or form and can be manipulated into a very sensual, flowing shape that complements the female persona. I love to work with gemstones, the more unusual the better, as the stones themselves dictate the design. Because every person is unique, it is only when considering each customer as an individual, their shape, ideas, reasons for wearing the piece, etc., can I truly create a custom made piece that will be treasured forever. I believe that it is this holistic approach to jewelry making that creates art that is truly suited to and loved by each customer. As a jeweler, it is my goal to create jewelry that will be here long after I am gone, and that truly makes the wearer feel remarkable.
