They have recently fabricated and installed all the cabinet work in our new home including kitchen, bathrooms, fireplace wall, window seat..., credenza with live edge, bed with hand chiseled headboard, and front door. The care taken in the matching of woodgrain on all the elements resulted in an artistically pleasing result (exceptional). All the work was of the highest quality in terms of fabrication and installation. Michael and his entire staff were a pleasure to work with, being very responsive to the vision, and full of good ideas on how best to achieve our objectives. My wife and I highly recommend them for fine cabinetry production.

Smith develops objects of great integrity — he is clearly untouched by fad or fashion and it is apparent that he feels a deep affinity for his creative methodology — and from the moment of commitment to an undertaking, his devotion is comp...lete, overseeing the project’s realization to the very last detail. In Mr. Smith’s skillful hands, like those of the consummate craftsman, materials from milled hardwoods to leaded glass are used in a way that celebrate their own unique qualities, all in the service of the gestalt of function. He customizes solutions that utilize humble materials to create beautiful cabinetry. His sense of design and detailing is meticulous and Mike is enthusiastically articulate in describing what he will do and how he will achieve results. Smith’s works are modern in terms of their linearity but there is an underlying story — a glimpse of modal tension and harmony that brings his work to life — the hallmark of a master’s hand. In editing cabinet design to its barest yet most interesting essentials, Smith reaffirms cabinetry’s indispensable place in organizing and streamlining our lives. You can only feel the power of Smith’s cabinet forms if you are right in front of them, seeing how a once flat surface achieves three dimensionality by simple cuts and folds. Suspended on a simple mount, its crisp lines cut through space like an arrow in flight, sailing toward the bulls eye. Circle around a clean birds eye maple island and you see how the form changes: the planar surfaces revealing portals, peaks and possibilities — more than the sum of their crisply mitered and meticulously lacquered parts. You will be fortunate in working with this artist and master cabinet maker and you will be appreciative for a lifetime. I have worked with Mr. Smith for over 25 years and am still perpetually delighted with his unique perspectives on geometric forms and the synergistic contrast of environmentally sound, responsibly harvested woods with industrially produced materials. I did not request nor would I accept an Islay single malt Scotch of over 12 years for the writings herein. Sincerely, Bill McConaughy, Anderson + McConaughy Design

We have continuous appreciation for his skill as we work at the kitchen island he designed, built, and installed at our vacation home 10 years ago. He also designed, built and installed a very stylish walnut vanity that shows off the beauty of that wood. The new bathroom is sometimes referred to as "the crown jewel of the home" due to Mike's outstanding work. He is a very ethical, exacting craftsman who is easy and enjoyable to work with. Smith, his wonderful group of craftsmen and the amazing job they have done in helping to reinvent our bathroom and revitalize our home. They created t...hree works of art for our mid-century home; a vanity, a linen closet and a room divider. We chose non-traditional materials and designs and rather than being thrown off by this MAS embraced the materials and the concept and improved on them. Michael’s vision for the final product was amazing and really took into consideration our home and our taste in a way we could not. Would “entertaining” be appropriate to describe our experience with MAS or too unprofessional; because he was never less than professional while always keeping our interactions entertaining and fun. His demeanor relieved much of the stress we had about the decisions we needed to make without trivializing them. Michael personally drove the bus toward the completion of this project. He providing scale drawings that the rest of the project hinged on, allowing our contractor to place mirrors, lights, electrical lines, etcetera. His guidance really did create the base that everything else was built from. His creative input was amazing and much appreciated without ever overstepping the line of consulting or supporting. He took that guidance we gave him and refined it into a final product that was better than we could have created on our own quietly accepting the latitude we gave him but never abused it to his own gain. When it came time to deliver and to integrate into the construction schedule in our home he drove his mule team to pull his wagon in on time; meeting the deadlines needed for a comfortable integration of services. Never was there a problem, always a solution. As things came up (addition or changes on our end) Michael painlessly put them to rest and our minds at ease. The MAS staff that came to our home were the same people that had done the actual construction of the cabinets. All of them took pride in seeing what they created properly installed. They obviously love what they are doing; it showed on every level of execution, which was very refreshing. We would like to recommend Michael A Smith Cabinetry to anyone who might be interested in having ANYTHING fabricated but instead we would implore you to use them; simply recommending their services seems trivial and doesn’t express the level of belief we have in their work. It was as if they sprinkled magic dust on the whole project and pulled it all together. We would never want to use anyone else to fabricate cabinets for us should the need arise. Should any further information be required; feel free to call and I’ll gush in person! Lowell MacGregor of Lowell and Janet MacGregor

This included everything from demolition to installation of new countertops and appliances. His guidance and sense of humor during the whole process took a lot of the pain out of the inconvenience of any remodel. That Michael is highly skilled is evident in the artistry and beauty of the finished product. As painful as kitchen remodels can be, I would do it over again if I worked with Michael. I found Michael on the internet after an extensiv...e search for custom cabinet makers. His website is beautiful and this was the first indication to me of his attention to detail. We have a 100 year old house and we wanted something that was classic and timeless but also had a contemporary feel. Even though we were not in his area, we talked at length and decided to work together. Michael gave me detailed instructions of what he needed ie photos, measurements, pictures from magazines... and I sent it all to him along with numerous emails on details I thought would work. We went back in fourth with a couple of versions of plans. There were still some minor issues and we spent a couple of hours on the phone talking them through. Michael had great suggestions and we were able to work them out. I flew to Portland to inspect the cabinets the day they were done and I felt like a kid on Christmas. The cabinets were amazing. Now installed, I still sit in my kitchen staring at them. I highly recommend working with Michael Smith. His work is incredible, he is very easy to work with and I know you will be pleased with the final product.
