I attended the College of William and Mary for one year before deciding the college life was not for me and going to work in construction. Since then I have done remodeling and cabinetry and in '99-'00 attended a six month course in traditional wooden boatbuilding. I have been building furniture and cabinets full time since January 2011.
While for years I was a "solid wood" snob I have recently begun to explore the use of veneers in my work. I like veneers because of the multiple options that open up when working with thinner material, but also view it as an environmentally friendly alternative to solid woods; much more usable veneer can be gotten out of single tree than individual planks.
