I have a penchant for the weird and different; whimsical plays on traditional designs with odd materials and never-before-seen-or-dreamed-of things. I also make more traditional pieces out of one-of-a-kind materials with one-of-a-kind flair. I never make the same thing the same way twice.

From little, wood rings made from reclaimed upright bass fingerboards to 8-foot dining tables made from deconstructed railroad trestles, no job is too big or too small for me to consider. I also like reconstructing sentimental items provided by the customer into something new and heirloom worthy.

Visit my website for more information on me as well as links to my etsy site and picasa portfolio where you can learn more and see current and sold pieces. Or just drop me an email or a phone call. I'm a pretty easy-going guy!

  • Tim Sway - Reclaimed and Upcycled Materials - CustomMade.com

    http://www.custommade.com

CustomMade Maker Tim Sway of Tim Sway Perspectives discusses why he loves working with salvaged and reclaimed materials. One of Tim's specialties is up-cycling unwanted or discarded items into something that is useful again. Whenever he is driving around town in his old yellow truck, he keeps his eyes peeled for things other people are getting rid of that he could use in his next project. Tim loves working with old shipping pallets because it allows him to make more leeway when restoring the wood rather than purchasing reclaimed wood from a distributer.

Do you have anything that might have exceeded it's original purpose? If so, CustomMade's makers like Tim can help you reduce and reuse, up-cycling those pieces into something useful again. What do you want CustomMade?

  • barn beam bench made with only hand tools, no electricty

using 19th century barn beams and technology, i make a bench "great granpa style" using only old fashioned hand tools and NO electricity. even all shop lights remained off.

FULL DISCLOSURE: i did use a modern, water-based poly (for environmental reasons), filmed this with a cell phone and edited it on a mac, but other than that this all could've taken place 100 years ago.

oh, and the lag bolts i used were pulled from a cart made in the 1940s, but i'm fairly certain that technology goes back over 100 years.

so if the zombie apocalypse comes, aliens attack, the government steals our energy - whatever you fear - rest assured we can still make a bench, at least, the old fashioned way... they come in handy for sittin' and such. i'm gonna try to make some fire this week ;-)

and it has a little brother: http://www.etsy.com/listing/105073657/reclaimed-bowling-alley-and-pins-side

  • Kitchen island

    by Megan Feb 25th 2013

Tim was fantastic throughout the entire project. He obviously listened very carefully to my husband and myself, and our kitchen island turned out to be everything that we had envisioned and more. He was communicative, respectful, and very timely. I will definitely ask him to help us with future projects.

  • 2 Custom Beer Tap Handles

    by Scott S. Jan 06th 2013

Tim did a great job on my project, 2 custom beer tap handles. He even made and shipped an additional handle when one of the handles ended up being too heavy to use. I would gladly use Tim to make another custom project.

  • A bar/pub height high chair for a toddler

    by Lauren Dec 07th 2012

Tim was great. He made a high chair for my daughter that is perfect for our kitchen counter/bar and also functions as a step-stool (which we also need). He kept us informed about the process and took our feedback into account. It is evident that he thought about the design quite a bit and put a lot of time and effort into construction. I would highly recommend his work.
