Having spent so
many years as an advertising art director with a suppressed desire to vent my creativity in a personal manner, I suppose I could have delved into the pastels, or perhaps oils. But why only satisfy one sensorial passion when capable of expressing two, or even three.
These sound sculptures are a combination of several passions - scavenging for shiny metal bits (I was undoubtably a crow in a previous life), a fascination for all things audible and my ability to fit various and sundry unrelated objects harmoniously together in otherwise unintentional ways - et voila! - art in the unusual guise of chimes. Comprised primarily of vintage electric lamp parts, all are embellished with anything metallic that has a melodic ring to it when in collision with accompanying objects - automobiles obviously excepted :).
All are entirely constructed of locally resourced, recycled materials in my Toronto, Corktown studio and each is guaranteed to elicit conversation and a smile.
