The original project combined a client's need for media storage, accent lighting and "something attractive that had an Asian feel". Using some photographs and drawings of Chinese pre-electric street lanterns as inspiration and a little modern interpretation, I created this design.

Shown in … Zebrawood (legs), Sapele (cabinet & lantern) and Wenge (cabinet door). The lantern uses hand-made rice paper mounted on glass plates; the lamp is long-life halogen. The storage compartment has adjustable shelving which can be positioned to handle about 60 audio CDs or about 45 DVDs. Of course, the cabinet could be used to store other things as the shelving is flexible and removable.

I've also created this design for another client substituting a clock for the lantern. In the picture provided, the clock tower is constructed using walnut and Sapele and the door features an original cast bronze bas relief sculpture from Theresa Moorehouse Howley.
