This horse is number 20 of 30 in a numbered, limited series known as the Old Paint Collection. Named for their vibrant colors, the result of laminating the solid hardwood blocks used in their creation, these sculptural toys combine a playful aspect with meticulous design.

All of our rocking … horses are handcrafted of hardwood; locally sourced whenever possible. After careful inspection hardwood planks are hand-laminated to create the solid blocks from which the components will be cut. Particular attention is paid to the color and quality of each piece of wood, and the high standards of each stage of the construction are reflected by the excellence of each finished horse. Each rocker pair is bent by hand and fitted to an individual horse. Tails, heads, seats and backs are all carefully selected to be harmonious parts of the whole. Only stainless steel fasteners are used to mount the seat and back and when complete each piece is finished with a non-toxic, hand rubbed penetrating oil.

This particular horse is constructed of air-dried cherry, from a beloved tree that grew in our family backyard, and has birch eyes and pegs. The saddle and seatback are kiln-dried cherry. Each horse has been branded, numbered and signed and can be inscribed with your child's name or other message.

The Old Paint Collection horses are based on an antique German folk toy whose dignified and playful design was too striking to be allowed to fade from use. This design, while light enough to carry easily, is substantial enough to provide a truly satisfying ride for children two to six years old. The foundation stallion of the herd is still being ridden regularly by his happy owner and younger sibling, 10 years after he was gifted to them.

All the herd members have long legs that appear to be bounding along even when they are at rest and the sweeping, gentle curve of the rockers makes for a particularly smooth ride. The unique tail-mounted seatback lends support, along with the hand and foot pegs, and the saddle is contoured to be both comfortable and stable. He will provide decades of service in your stable.
