Chest - custom made to match the theme in a treasured painting done by client's Mother. In this linen chest, four cherry-wood trapezoid frames are corner mitered. Curly maple panels, solid and book-matched veneer, are used at ends and in miter-framed inset doors.
The pagoda and lattice railing … depicted in the painting were the inspiration for the design elements. I decided to create interest in the fret work by making the two ends different and repeating the pattern in the handle which is also a trapezoid. CNC fret work was subbed out. I found some gorgeous figured cherry for the top. The inside is finished with a gel varnish and the outside with several coats of oil finish that's keeping this linen chest aglow. The whole thing is darkening beautifully.
