The original design was developed in 1995 for handweavers to custom fit them to their particular loom. The seat rails are positioned to create the curved seat surface. This minimizes pressure on the back of the leg as the weaver treadles their loom.
The bench can be made for other purposes, from footstool to leg rest to dressing bench to piano bench.
A removable back is optional.
