This sexy, curvy, concrete lounge chair was born in Costa Rica. There was a need for durable furniture in a climate that can change in the blink of an eye, hence concrete. Originally a small hotel made several loungers out of concrete for the area around their pool. However, they had massive … concrete bases, which were cube shaped and the tops were rigid and had sharp angles. Also, the existing loungers were stationary and static. Being that they were made from 2.5 inch thick, rebar and aggregate laden concrete and their shape, there was no way to adjust the recline.

We aimed to smooth out everything about the loungers that they started with and this was the end result. On the top where one lays, we took away the rigid and made it smooth curves that are easy on your back, bottom and legs. We spent a lot of time testing the comfort level, both on one's back and stomach. When we reached a smooth design that we felt comfortable on, it was on to the challenge of making the recline adjustable. My business partner only likes to sit up and read while sunning, where as I like to lounge and be lazy. So we definitely needed it to recline/incline. We settled on a semi-circular shape with tracks built into the back end and the corresponding recesses on the base allowed even, smooth adjustment. Both of our wives were put to the test to see how difficult it was to adjust and both could easily handle it.

This concrete lounge chair is made from Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete with an alkaline resistant glass fiber mesh reinforcement to give it super strength. The white portland cement keeps it cool even in the hot tropical sun, so you never have to worry about burnin' your buns.

This was an incredibly fun project to take on and both the hotel owners and ourselves were blown away by the end results.
