These coffee tables were from a series that started with the thought "pool table".
The soapstone seal head is emerging from a black lacquered walnut pool in a quiet cove, slowly swimming through the water causing ripples and bubbles in the surface.
The soapstone sea otter is lying on it's back coiled in seaweed for floatation as it munches on an early morning snack of clams. Hand-carved cherry inset into the table top makes up the seaweed. The detail setting in the purpleheart double railing is a shaped soapstone piece captured in a gold-plated brass ring.
Other tables in the series were a white Carrera marble polar bear emerging from the white lacquered walnut polar pack ice, soapstone salmon on their spawning trek up one end of a crashing cherry waterfall table and a frog with a gold ball in his mouth climbing up and over the edge of black lacquered walnut table as he makes his way to the lilly pads on the ripply water carved into the table top having retrieved the ball from the depths of the pond for his princess.

36" wide x 42" long x 19" high plus the height of the critter.
