This cradle was commissioned by a young couple that was extremely excited to be expecting a baby. The only requirements I had to go on was that she wanted something different. "All of the traditional style cradles are ugly, but not something too far out there", "It has to look like a cozy basket … kind of nest". From this I took the word nest an envisioned a bird's nest swinging in a tree, thus a pendulum with a curved base and spindle sides. The basket weave sides from her description, 'cozy basket". The basket weave only comes half way up the side because she wanted to be able to lay in bed and see the baby.
