"Crinoid Tree" Cast Crystal Wall Piece
The subject matter was inspired by nature, but is fantasy. Crinoids are ancient underwater creatures, but a "Crinoid Tree" is the product of our imagination.
This piece is made with a technique we call "reverse casting" in which the viewer looks through a flat glass surface on the front with the detailed sculpting pressing in from the back. The sculpted area creates negative space, thus the term "reverse cast." This particular piece was framed with brown suede behind the crystal which adds to the warmth and dimensionality of the sculpting. The crystal itself is a transparent citrine, or pale yellow in color.
Dimensions: 17.75 inches wide x 12.75 inches in height x 1 inch thick (not including frame).
