Update #1 Some drawings of the cabinet

attached are two drawings. Both drawings are pretty much to scale. I built a 3D (sketchup) model of the basic shape, but it doesn't do curves well so I overlaid hand drawn parts. The drawer details have a little more yellow than the original version - what do you think of that? Right now the (yellow) satinwood and mahogany sections are equal width, more or less. I could narrow the satinwood some - wouldn't recommend narrowing the mahogany.
The overall cabinet is a refinement of the original sketch. The curve at the tops of the legs pick up of the shape on the drawer fronts. I've added side stretchers for strength. The legs are probably just over an inch thick at their narrowest. I'm tempted to use cherry - it is strong, has nice grain, and stains well to a brown mahogany color, which is what i think you are looking for. We should look at some veneer on-line together to pick a mahogany whose colour and grain you like.
The dividers between the drawers are 3/16" strips of cabinet wood (cherry). The remainder of each piece of wood is behind the drawer front, acting as a stop. The wood strips may also be recessed, to create a shadow line. I'll test that out when I get there, and send you pictures. Each drawer front has a 1/8" or narrower piece of cherry all around it to protect the veneer edge, which is otherwise very fragile. This cherry could sit slightly proud (traditional) or be flush ( more contemporary, and what I'm tempted to do for this case). It would be easier to make without this strip but prone to veneer damage.
I would appreciate your comments.
Regards
Dave

Update #2 the drawer front layout is going well

the makore looks really good, and I like it with the african satinwood. I cut these this afternoon on the full sized pattern. They are slightly oversize so that I can trim them down to dimension after they are glued to the substrate. The drawers will be 18" wide, so that with the ~1" frame it'll be 20". The frame will flare out another inch or so at the floor and the top. I'm planning on making the cabinet 13" deep based on an earlier email.

Update #3 all seven drawer fronts have been cut out

Each drawer front has been cut oversize so that I can trim them to exact size later. I think it looks pretty sharp, and really like the makore and the satinwood together. We done good.

Heller And Heller Custom Furniture in Virginia being made for Amanda Z. byHeller And Heller Custom Furniture
Amanda Z. submitted:

“Looking for a free standing jewelry armoire that will not look out of place with my bedroom furniture which is mostly 1930s-40s mahogany. Does not have to be mahogany or an exact match, just in character. I can provide some pictures later. Should be around 50 inches high, 20 wide, and 13 deep. Should have lots of small dividers in the drawers as I need mostly small compartments for earrings. Needs to be able to be shipped or easily picked up in Pittsburgh. Time frame and price negotiable, tell me what you can offer.”
