Update #2 Day 2 - get wood ready for lathe

Ended up choosing Pear and Maple - two excellent hardwoods that can be used for smoking. The plan is to put them on the lathe and carve each piece by hand. They'll all be unique, but true to the design picture we originally drew up.

Update #3 Day 2 - cut keys for shaping wood

Annie did an awesome job delicately making these keys so we'd have a guideline for making the chess pieces. We decided that we could fit two pieces on each chunk of wood for all but the queen and king. And so that's what we did.

The pear set just needs some clean up on the belt sander and it'll be done. Then onto the maple set.

How do you like them? Any mods you want?

Curtis P. submitted:

“The final product I am looking for is a 32 piece chess set. I bought a chess board in Istanbul and I would like to have a chess set to go along with it. I attached images of the chess board and chillums and pipes. The chillums and pipe images are not mine, I found them on the internet, but I thought these would be good examples of what I might be looking for. I was looking for an infused design of the chess board and the chillums and pipes in the pictures. More specifically I would like all of the pieces except the kings to be chillums. The chillum pawns would have the smallest capacity chamber, while the queens have the largest capacity chamber. The rooks, knights, and bishops would have chamber sizes in between. The kings would be pipes with a bowl to pack at the end of the game. Thank you for you time and energy! Your help is very much appreciated! I am open to any ideas, questions, comments, and helpful critiques. My desired completion is only desired. If it is
