Update #1 Drawings for Chillum (pipe) Chess Set
Curtis, this is the design Annie and I came up with. How do you like it? Any mods you want to make? Also, could you get back to me on the size of each tile on the board. I misplaced that information.

Update #2 Day 2 - get wood ready for lathe
Ended up choosing Pear and Maple - two excellent hardwoods that can be used for smoking. The plan is to put them on the lathe and carve each piece by hand. They'll all be unique, but true to the design picture we originally drew up.

Update #3 Day 2 - cut keys for shaping wood
Annie did an awesome job delicately making these keys so we'd have a guideline for making the chess pieces. We decided that we could fit two pieces on each chunk of wood for all but the queen and king. And so that's what we did.

Update #4 Day 3 - 1/2 a set
The pear set just needs some clean up on the belt sander and it'll be done. Then onto the maple set.
How do you like them? Any mods you want?

Update #6 Almost done
All pieces sanded to 320 and drilled out. Still need to make bowls in the bottoms and buff on some carnuba wax.
