Dt-54 American Chestnut Farm Table - Sold

The top of this live edge table is made from very rare American Sweet Chestnut, which today is virtually an extinct wood since the blight of 1904. These table top boards were originally laid down as flooring under the wide pine boards that were used in a circa 1790 home in Middleboro, Massachusetts. Chestnut is a very hard wood and trees grew to enormous heights. It is sad that we lost this very valuable asset in the beginning of the 20th century. Because the chestnut was such a hard, strong wood, these boards were cut thin (3/4") to be used under the main floor. However this table can take a great deal of abuse since the wood is extremely hard. Great table for kids! SOLD
