This woodturned vase captures your attention from a distance and then draws you in closer as you examine the intricacies of the spalted color veins. Spalting occurs naturally as the dead tree starts to break down. Turned too soon and the spalting is non-existent, too late and the wood is rotten. Obviously, this one was just right. Finished with a high gloss sheen and topped with a delicate finial. This vase was recently on display in the Gregg Museum at NC State.
