"Materials: Curly Maple, Hard Maple, Cherry, Maple PW Finish: Waterlox This client had previously had me make cabinets with curly maple doors, and liked the material so much that she specified it for this cantilevered desk. Making a structure both light and rigid enough to project from a wall unsupported by legs while incorporating drawers and dealing with wood movement presented a number of interesting technical challenges. I don't think I drew a completely relaxed breath until it was successfully fastened to her wall and proved itself able to take weight without deflecting. The final effect is clean, modern, and a bit magical."
