Rolltop Desk, Walnut, Cherry, and Red Oak; Oil and Beeswax Finish with Brass Hardware *** This rolltop desk was custom made for an architect who provided me sketches of what he had in mind. He wanted a very low profile rolltop desk for his wife in a style to match the desk he had used in his architectural business for decades. Working closely with him I turned the sketches into computer drawings and renderings that showed him that all the moving parts could work together well within his size restraints and the confines of the space allotted the piece in his home. In addition to making the functional design drawings, I added special features like carefully matched wood grain, cherry banding around the walnut plywood surfaces, and individually shaped cherry drawer pulls. This desk is a joy to use! *** This desk won an Honorable Mention Award in the 2008 Custom Woodworking Business Magazine Design Portfolio competition, and is typical of the challenges I take on to make furniture just the way a client wants, but with my special touch! The custom design process is a wonderful and fulfilling collaboration between myself and my clients. After discussing the project, and if possible visiting the home or business where the piece will reside (or, if distance is prohibitive, reviewing photographs of the new home for the piece), I provide a selection of computer drawn 3-dimensional renderings of what the piece might look like so we can all visualize it. This begins the iterative give and take design process, resulting in delivery of just the right piece of furniture! I look forward to working with you to design and build the perfect desk for your home or office! *** Juried Virginia Professional Artisan: Artisans Center of Virginia, Juried Member: Rappahannock Art League, Member: The Furniture Society
