Jewelry Chest, Ambrosia Maple, Cherry, Holly, Walnut, Red Cedar, and Shellac Polish with Brass Hardware *** This jewelry chest is practical as well as beautiful. It was made of wood from salvaged trees, most of which were blown down in Hurricane Isabel, milled and dried by me at my Virginia workshop. The chest has sufficient height so necklaces may be hung from brass pegs inside the curved door, and the pivoting drawers will not fall out while selecting jewelry. The sides, doors, and the curved parts of the drawers are formed from glued bent hardwood laminations giving the piece a graceful feel with ample capacity. The hand shaped walnut pulls provide a firm, yet sensuous feel to the fingers. The bottoms of the drawers are lined with soft velvet to protect fine jewelry. The shellac polish finish is exquisite! This jewelry chest won first place in the 45th Annual Art Exhibit of the Rappahannock Art League. You can see a similar jewelry chest, but made of solid cherry, on my website. *** The custom design process is a fulfilling and wonderful collaboration between maker and client. I enjoy the challenge! After discussing the project, and if possible visiting the home where the furniture will reside I provide a selection of computer drawn 3-dimensional renderings of what the piece might look like so we can all visualize it. This begins the iterative give and take design process, resulting in delivery of just the right piece of furniture! I encourage inquiries about designing new and exciting jewelry chests (and other pieces, too) especially for you! *** Juried Virginia Professional Artisan: Artisans Center of Virginia, Juried Member: Rappahannock Art League, Member: The Furniture Society
