Malaysian Blackwood Ultra-Narrow-Neck Classical Guitar
guitarmasterworks
Wailuku, Hawaii
Back and sides of this guitar are made of Malaysian Blackwood. It has a thin and narrow fretboard, almost a steel-string neck. The fretboard is Ebony with a 650 mm scale length and has a constant width of 46 mm from nut to saddle. The result is a guitar which is remarkably fast and easy to play, particularly with barred chords and in open tunings. The soundboard is "bearclaw" German Spruce. The bridge and headplate are Snakewood, and the headplate has inlays of my \"Maui Girl\"⢠trademark and \"JAD\" logo. The neck and peghead are Spanish Cedar -- not as thin as a hardwood neck, but thin and flat by classical-guitar standards -- fitted with Blake Robinson Northumbria Sterling Silver tuning machines with Snakewood buttons, and the heel has my signature Abalone heelcap. The inside of the soundboard is signed, dated and numbered (#10) by me.

About guitarmasterworks
guitarmasterworks was founded in the late 1980s as my guitar-building venue, a side-line from my role as founder of RainSong Graphite Guitars and inventor of the modern carbon-fiber/epoxy acoustic guitar. I’ve licensed back from RainSong my patented soundboard technology, a “braceless” design which when built in wood involves a VERY thin soundboard backed up by Nomex honeycomb and a HYPER-THIN backing plate (sanded down to the point that the wood is almost transparent!). It sounds very good – loud, with good base, very clear treble, and great balance and “attack”. And I use a lute-like system of cutting string ramps in the back of the peghead so that the headplate itself is free of any slots or tuners. I make only classical guitars, and I use the finest tonewoods obtainable and the highest quality tuning machines, fittings and strings. My guitars are very traditional in shape – I use no angled necks, bumps on the soundboard or “alternate” soundholes – all in the interest of making guitars with superb tone and superior playability. I am fortunate to be able to make my guitars one-at-a-time and the guitars are handcrafted to the highest standards of workmanship.
