Walnut and Curly Maple Federal Style Game or Card Table

The Chatham Workshop Chatham, New Jersey

This Federal Style table is made of Claro walnut and curly maple, and the design is similar to other game or card tables made during the period. The two table leafs are book matched, meaning that they are sequentially sawn from the same log. The result is that each leaf is identical to the other, so that when the leaves are folded out as a complete table, the figuering in the wood looks like opposing pictures in an open book.
